Give me a list of all the people who are racist against elves or beasts who are not essential in the games files.
You can figure out where I’m going with this
Aregnor Once-Honored can be killed, but unfortunately due to a radiant Thieves Guild quest, Rolff Stone-Fist cannot be killed without command console use.
Grelod the Kind, but I mean who hasn’t killed her yet xD
Grelka is pretty racist against Argonians
Elda Early-Dawn is super rude to Dunmer, not sure if she’s essential or not though
hulda in whiterun, the companions except athis but idk if they’re all essential, the general store manager and his brother in falkreath, sven himself, niranye blames the dunmer for their own suffering but idk if she’s essential, i’ll add more when i think of them
heimskr lumps all elves in with the thalmor in his speeches if that counts
also personally i think it’s safe to say that any diehard stormcloak supporter is probably racist considering the idea behind the rebellion is “skyrim is nord land”, which disregards native bretons and nonnative races who were born and live there.
Let’s not forget people in the Reach who are racist towards the native Bretons.
names. we need names.
I WILL NAME NAMES. JUST GIVE ME SOME TIME TO PULL UP MY NOTES.
OKAY INSTALLMENT ONE: MAJOR CITIES: DAWNSTAR AND FALKREATH
DAWNSTAR:
Jarl Skald’s servant BULFREK is way into the Stormcloaks and his dearest wish is to enlist. He is unfortunately the only non-essential racist in town. The others are essential.
ALDING and STIG SALT-PLANK, who appear during rise in the east, are not racist, but they are sick bastards who sexually harass one of the inn’s employees in a most untoward manner!
FALKREATH:
According to dialogue from a quest that was never fully implemented into the game, RUNIL was once a Thalmor mage and killed a lot of people. However he seems to regret it and as far as I can tell no longer holds the ideology of the Thalmor. Considering it’s implied he’s hiding from them, he may have deserted. I’d say give this one the benefit of the doubt, he is a nice old man and a priest at that.
SOLAF is an ex-Stormcloak soldier and he says he still believes in Ulfric’s position that Skyrim should be ruled by the Nords. However I am on the fence about him as he seems to be fine with all races and actively chastises his brother for his racist bullshit.
Speaking of his brother BOLUND, the man is a horrid racist and will shit all over you if you aren’t a Nord. If you are an argonian in particular he will shout slurs at you. An absolute non-essential racist.
That is all for now, please stay tuned for my next installment in which I discuss the non essential racists of Markarth.
beautiful
Okay! PART TWO: MARKARTH!
I hope you’re ready for this because Markarth is full of racist assholes! Many are essential, but many are not!
First: THE SILVER-BLOODS. They are all Stormcloak scum. Unfortunately, BETRID is the only one who is unessential at first. THONAR loses essential status after completing No One Escapes Cidhna Mine.
LISBET says some bad things about the Forsworn, says they’re madmen. Also she’s a cannibal and blames her victims’ disappearances on the forsworn. One of said victims was her own brother.
SKAGGI SCAR-FACE calls the Forsworn “madmen”. It is unclear however whether he bears ill will towards all native reachmen or only the ones who have joined the Forsworn and attacked his mine.
BANNING seems to be leery of the Forsworn but is likely not racist against native Reachmen because he is one himself. However, he is also a cannibal, so the place would probably be better off without him around.
OGMUND seems innocuous enough – until the Stormcloaks take over Markarth. Then he is VERY vocal about how glad he is that Ulfric’s men are in charge.
HOGNI RED-ARM hates the Forsworn, and his interactions with Degaine hint that he’s racist against native Reachmen in general. Also a cannibal.
ANTON VIRANE, a Breton from High Rock, is an absolutely horrid racist, against other Bretons, no less. He expresses extreme disgust at being mistaken for a Reachman and regularly calls other Bretons who were born in the Reach “filthy natives” TO THEIR FACE. He is terrible. He is essential until you do Recipe for Disaster.
FRABBI isn’t racist, but she is prejudiced against mages and wishes they’d all leave the city.
MULUSH GRO-SHUGURZ treats his native employees like shit and is in general a terrible dude.
And, saving the best news for last, everyone’s favorite Thalmor asshole ONDOLEMAR is in fact NON-ESSENTIAL.
Tune in next time as we discuss the non-essential racists of MORTHAL and WINTERHOLD.
PART THREE: MORTHAL AND WINTERHOLD!
This will be a very short part, not because there are no racists or bigots in Morthal or Winterhold, but because most of them are essential.
MORTHAL:
ALVA will compliment you on your appearance, either flirtatiously or otherwise depending on gender, but will not do so if you are an argonian or khajiit. However there is a 90% chance that this is not racism and is in fact just Alva Not Beomg A Furry, since she never says anything negative based on race. However, you’re probably going to end up killing her anyway since she’s one of the vampires behind a lot of the crap going on in town.
There are no other racists but plenty of people who are prejudiced against mages and go out of their way to make Fallon’s life miserable for being a Mage. Of these, only two are non-essential: BENOR and JORGEN.
WINTERHOLD:
Surprisingly this list has no one on it except the Thalmor ANCANO, who you have to kill during the college questline anyway.
Please note that Winterhold has plenty of people who are both racist and hate magic. They are just all essential. The Jarl’s family in particular is horrid. The Jarl teaches his son to hate mages and elves, and the kid regularly plays a game called “Hunt the Elf” in which he pretends other local children are elves and he pretends to kill them dead. However it is still possible to at least get them all out of Winterhold since all of the essential racists are either part of the Jarl’s family or servants of the Jarl. Just side with the Empire in the Civil War questline and they’ll all be banished when you take Winterhold.
Stay tuned next time for a slightly longer segment as we discuss the non-essential racists of RIFTEN!
Now it’s time for our next installment – the non-essential racists of Riften! Unfortunately, some of Riften’s Shittiest are essential but let’s take a look at who’s not!
The one you may notice right away as you enter Riften is VULWULF SNOW-SHOD. He is an ardent Stormcloak supporter and will accuse you of being an Imperial spy if you aren’t a Nord. He has also been known to throw racial slurs at Argonians.
His wife NURA SNOW-SHOD is also a Stormcloak supporter and a priestess of Talos, but as far as I can tell she has sided with Ulfric solely over the Talos matter and out of anger towards the Imperials for killing her daughter. She makes no indication of believing the “ “Skyrim belongs to the Nords” part of things, but never admits to not believing in it either.
Their son ASGEIR is okay and thinks Ulfric is full of shit on all fronts, he only keeps quiet about it in front of his parents because he knows they’re still reeling from losing a daughter and doesn’t want to cause them any more grief. Leave Asgeir alone.
HARRALD, the son of Jarl Laila Law-Giver, is a die-hard supporter of Ulfric, and as such has a very good chance of being racist, and unlike all the other die-hard supporters of Ulfric located in Mistveil Keep, he’s actually non-essential.
GRELKA may play nice with the Dunmer and hate Ulfric as much as we do, but she’s horribly racist against Argonians and spends most of her nights flinging racial slurs at Madesi and trying to chase him out of the Bunkhouse.
Lastly, he’s not a racist, but I should probably mention TYTHIS ULEN, who is a sexist pig who constantly sexually harasses Svana, who has been nothing but sweet and kind to everyone. Considering no one else is seen to treat her this way and she has complained about being groped on the job, it’s safe to assume he’s behind that too. Something must be done about this RAGING PERVERT.
Tune in next time as we discuss the non-essential racists of SOLITUDE and WHITERUN!
Now it’s time for the Non-Essential Racists (and other generally shitty non-essential people) of SOLITUDE and WHITERUN! These two are lumped together because as the seat of the Empire in Skyrim, Solitude is not home to very many Stormcloak sympathizers, who make up the bulk of shitty racists in Skyrim.
SOLITUDE:
GRETA is a Stormcloak sympathizer and thinks her brother Roggvir did the right thing in helping Ulfric escape. As such she likely believes in that Skyrim for the Nords bullshit.
JORN at the Bard’s College never actually says anything racist, but upon being given an assignment to create a poem about a classical hero of Skyrim, he chooses to pen a war epic about Hoag Merkiller. I will give you three guesses what HE’S famous for. Skyrim has a metric fuckton of classical heroes considering its history is pretty much epic battles everywhere all the time. That out of all these heroes Jorn would choose THIS GUY to sing the praises of makes me more than a little suspicious.
BJARTUR is a prisoner who can be found in the Castle Dour dungeons screaming about her undying devotion to Ulfric at all hours. While she is not essential, she already has a life sentence in prison, which may very well be a fate worse than death.
AHTAR the executioner refers to Jaree-Ra as a ‘filthy Argonian’. While he is certainly justified in disliking Jaree-Ra, considering the guy is a NASTY CRIMEBOY, his choice of wording hints that he may not think all that highly of Argonians in general.
While he is not racist, ERIKUR is a huuuuge jerk who has been known to make persistent unwanted advantages on women. At one point he got some poor Bosmer serving girl at the embassy fired and, knowing the Thalmor, tortured or killed, just because she wouldn’t sleep with him. He is essential but apparently becomes killable after the Dark Brotherhood quest to kill Vittoria Vici, which is odd because afaik he has nothing to do with the quest. If you’re Thieves’ Guild, though, you may want to leave him alone, because he’s the Guild’s primary contact in Solitude.
WHITERUN:
HULDA, the local innkeeper, says some offhandedly not-nice things about elves if you are not an elf. If you are, her racism becomes a bit more blatant. Ask her about magic. I dare you. Please note that if you are doing the Daedric quests, Mephala’s quest will not start if Hulda is dead due to a bug, even though she has nothing to do with the quest itself. Don’t worry about the inn, though, Ysolda takes over if she dies.
Not racist, but MIKAEL the bard is probably the worst womanizing prick in all of Skyrim, and has even written a book about his attempts to get into the pants of every woman in Whiterun. He has also done creepy stalker shit so seriously fuck that guy.
Depending on whose version of the story you believe, there is a damn good chance that SAADIA is in league with the Thalmor and has furthered their terrible terrible plans. And, looking at the lore, the Alik’r version of the story is a LOT more likely than her version, mainly because the Alik’r fucking hate the Thalmor and it doesn’t make sense that they’d come to capture her on the Thalmor’s behalf.
NAZEEM is a condescending prick towards the player and anyone who isn’t upper class. He can be found being rude to the street vendors every day in town. He may also be casually racist considering the assumptions he makes in his offhandedly remarks about the quality of the meat Anoriath is selling. The way he says it implies he is making these assumptions because Anoriath is an elf. Also, if you listen to his wife’s conversations with other townsfolk, there are some pretty heavy implications that he really doesn’t treat her right.
HEIMSKR doesn’t directly say anything racist aside from being understandably pissed at the Thalmor, but seems to lump all elves in with the Thalmor. Also, if the Stormcloaks take the city, he can be found singing Ulfric’s praises at the top of his lungs. Verdict: Cannot prove it for sure, but there’s a good chance he’s racist.
EORLUND GREY-MANE, like all Grey-Manes, is a staunch Stormcloak supporter. He also practically worships the ground the Companions walk on, and respects Ysgramor, who as we all know was a genocidal maniac. Note that he has a place in several Companions quests so it might be smart to leave him alone until you’re done with the Companions questline, which you WILL want to finish because a good number of the Companions are on this list but only lose essential status AFTER questline completion. Also he’s the only dude who will work the Skyforge so if you want any Skyforge Steel stuff I’d suggest buying it off him ahead of time.
FRALIA and OLFINA GREY-MANE are both Stormcloak supporters. Olfina is still surprisingly non-essential despite being a the replacement steward when the Stormcloaks move in. Unfortunately, all other Grey-Manes are essential.
LILITH MAIDEN-LOOM mentions that she is good friends with Maven Black-Briar and that the two of them know their place in the world, and other people’s places too. No evidence that she’s racist, but considering what type of woman Maven is, and that Lilith agrees with her philosophy, she’s probably a pretty shitty person.
Now it’s time to go over THE COMPANIONS. These guys uphold Ysgramor’s legacy and a lot of them are terrible, but not all of them, so we’re going over all of them here to ascertain their levels of terrible. Please remember that Ysgramor, while remembered as a Nord hero, is responsible for the genocide of the Snow Elves. Skjor and Kodlak White-Mane will not be included because they die as part of the questline anyway. Vignar Grey-Mane is not included because he’s marked as essential.
AELA THE HUNTRESS – Scary violent lady. Doesn’t care much about Sovngarde but afaik still adheres to the whole Ysgramor’s legacy thing. Essential until questline is done. Verdict: Good chances of racism but not for sure.
ATHIS: Joined solely for gold and glory. Verdict: Athis is Valid and he is a Friend and Boy please leave him alone.
BRILL: Becomes Housecarl to the Jarl in case of Stormcloaks taking over Whiterun but remains unessential. Verdict: STORMCLOAK SCUM.
FARKAS: It is very clear that this guy is dumb as a bag of rocks and doesn’t get this whole ‘politics’ or ‘history’ thing. He just wants to fight. Does basically call Ysgramor ‘the hero who killed all the elves except not really because I’m there are still elves and stuff’ but it sounds more like he’s parroting something his brother told him and doesn’t understand the implications. Seems to be fine with any Actual Elves he meets. Is essential until Companions questline is complete. Verdict: 10% chance he’s racist, 90% chance he’s just a Big Dumb Puppy and a Good Boy.
VILKAS: Defs goes in for the whole ‘Ysgramor is awesome’ thing. Much smarter than his brother and knows exactly what he is talking about. Is essential until Companions questline is complete. Verdict: Not a Good Boy at all, most likely racist. However, please hold off on doing anything about him just yet. Until you have read the next segment at least. The reason for this will become clear.
NJADA STONE-ARM: bluh bluh HUGE BITCH. However, no direct evidence on where she stands on the Ysgramor issue. Also gets some brownie points for being as far as I remember the only one who bothers to help Athis when he’s injured during the attack on Jorrvaskr. The two seem to be pretty good friends and I’ve seen them hanging out a lot. Verdict: um she’s super mean to you but she IS one of the few who’s openly nice to Athis. Jury’s still out on the racism. I’d say make your own judgement on this one.
RIA: Practically worships the ground Ysgramor walks on, totally wants to carry on his legacy and shit. Verdict: Definitely a bad egg. The worst egg, really.
TILMA THE HAGGARD: Looks after the others, cooks their meals, cleans up their messes, listens to their worries, afaik doesn’t subscribe to their philosophy. Verdict: She’s just the cleaning lady leave her be.
TORVAR: Does not give a shit about the whole Ysgramor crap, he only joined to be a mercenary and make some money to pay off his debts. Also he apparently has a high probability of attacking you on sight EVEN IF YOU ARE A COMPANION if you helped the Stormcloaks take Haafingar, so I’m guessing he thinks Ulfric is full of bullshit too. Verdict: ABSOLUTELY VALID PROTECT HIM PLEASE.
Join us next time for a SPECIAL SURPRISE SEGMENT before we move on to the non-essential racists of WINDHELM!
Okay everyone time for our SPECIAL SURPRISE SEGMENT: GETTING RID OF ROLFF STONE-FIST WITHOUT USING CONSOLE CODES
So I am sure you are all familiar with Rolff, as he is arguably the BIGGEST RACIST IN ALL OF SKYRIM, which, considering how many racists are in Skyrim, is quite an accomplishment. But as many of you have no doubt already discovered firsthand, he is sadly essential so there is nothing we can do about him.
OR IS THERE?
First, a disclaimer. I have not yet tested this in my own game, and information on the two elder scrolls wikis is conflicting on the matter. It involves messing with radiant quests, specifically. UESP claims that radiant quests all use the same list of 200 characters, which are determined using criteria that excludes essential NPCs and NPCs with unique dialogue, which would exclude Rolff Stone-Fist. The OTHER wiki puts Rolff on the list as a subject for certain radiant quests. Since I have received radiant quests where the NPC involved is either essential or has unique dialogue before, therefore directly contradicting UESP’s claim, I am inclined to believe the latter (I have also noticed other things that make the latter more plausible). If the official wiki is correct, then this should work. But if UESP is correct, it will not.
So, here’s what you do. Join the Companions. Once you can take quests from them, go to VILKAS for work. This is why I told you to leave him alone before. Each Companions leader gives out a different set of radiant quests, and the one who gives the Rescue Mission quests is Vilkas (also Skjor, but we’ll talk about that later). He also gives other quests and radiant quests have a lot of targets so this next step may take a While. But the wiki lists Rolff as a potential target for the Rescue Mission quest.
So your goal is to do Companions quests until you get one prompting you to rescue Rolff Stone-Fist. Once the quest starts, Rolff will be KIDNAPPED BY BANDITS and taken to the quest location. Now all you gotta do is not finish the request. Take note of the location and NEVER GO THERE. Last thing you want is to clear some random cave and then at the end have Rolff thanking you for saving his ass.
The thing about Skyrim in general and radiant quests in particular is that they are BUGGIER THAN A SUMMER NIGHT IN COASTAL TEXAS, so you don’t want to risk anything happening to trip some switch or whatever to undo all your hard work. Now there’s a chance everything will be fine but just in case I would personally make sure nothing happens to ANY OF THE ACTORS INVOLVED, including the quest giver. I’ve seen some quests automatically undone because the quest giver dies. Not sure if they were radiant but don’t wanna risk it. That’s why we’re going with Vilkas and not Skjor. Skjor dies. Also I mean it’s smart to keep Vilkas around anyway, in the event you forget the location and ACCIDENTALLY RESCUE ROLFF STONE-FIST. If that happens and Vilkas isn’t around you won’t be able to trigger the quest again to fix your mistake.
So tl;dr if this works right you can get Rolff out of Windhelm and permanently at the mercy of some bandits somewhere.
Next time tune in for what is surely going to be the largest segment of this series, THE NON-ESSENTIAL RACISTS OF WINDHELM.
this is SINGLE-HANDEDLY the greatest thing i have seen in a long time
the Soviets did all the heavy lifting and they let the UK bleed themselves against Hitler and imperial japan.
Well, America did sit on its ass issuing loans to the UK and the USSR and waited until the best opportunity before jumping in just so it could get a foothold in asia, so have to give the devil its due, but no, it is not “american” to beat up nazis, it was a foreign policy fluke that ended when america started hiring nazis for its intelligence operations
This severely undermines all that happened with America in WW2.
No, it strips the fantasy that America was The Good Guy™ that saved the day.
Like, by mere body count, America didn’t do shit in WWII. The soviets lost more civilians in Leningrad alone than Americans lost soldiers in every theatre of war combined. If America had suffered damage proportional to what the soviets endured, almost every major city east of the Mississippi would have to be razed to the ground. (Can you imagine, America loses two towers in New York and it drops all pretenses by granting the president an imperium to buff up the secret police, torture, and wage multiple wars for funsies and profit. If they knew tragedy like other countries do, they’d surrender so fast and lick whatever new boot you show them before you can say, “kneel”)
If this is the first time you’re exposed to the reality of america’s dithering and slimy way of fighting wars, then welcome to the first day of your life, most of what you think is a lie, take a seat and listen because you’re out of your element here.
lol yes seriously, it’s criminal that america has been able to restructure the entire narrative of ww2 and make itself the savior of the world when it’s soldiers didn’t even step foot in western europe until literally the 58th month of a 69 month long conflict and even then, at no point did it fight more than 20% of the german military! its not a stretch to say at all that the defeat of nazi germany was singlehandedly a soviet endeavor. and like, the war against japan, which is always similarly called an exclusively american affair is just as false and misleading when the only real troops the americans fought were literally besieged, starving japanese soldiers on small pacific islands while the most powerful forces remained on the continent fighting against the chinese and british/indians. funnily enough, the largest and most powerful japanese army of the war was also completely defeated by the soviets in like a week lol (it took the usa like 3 months to defeat a japanese force a tenth of that size on okinawa all while suffering massively more casualties)
nobody thinks america did shit apart from americans
^^^
True, to the rest of the world they really just sort of turned up at the end and nuked 2 cities
Starting in March of 1941 (However proposed in 1940) with the lend lease act, Before the Germans invaded the Soviet Union, the USA started pumping Iron, Steel, Guns, Boots, Food, Fuel, Tanks, Planes, Aircraft into the United Kingdom and other nations that requested foreign aid through military equipment.
With the stranglehold that Nazi Germany’s U-boats had on Britain’s Waters We became the life line of the UK, every person on that little stretch of island was on their knees thanking god for the United States of America.
1940 America is much different than our beloved America today, we were isolationist, we did not want to meddle with European affairs, especially after getting out of one of the biggest economical depressions in history. It wasn’t called the Great Depression without reason. After embargoing Japan in July of 1941 for the Occupation of French Indochina (Modern Day Vietnam), Japan was essentially out of luck and unable to continue to feed it’s War Machine.
Japan’s response was to attempt to deliver a knockout blow to the US Navy’s Pacific fleet which at the time was rather small and very differently composed compared to the US Navy in 1946. The Pacific Fleet was formally recreated on 1 February 1941. On that day General Order 143 split the United States Fleet into separate Atlantic, Pacific, and Asiatic Fleets.
In December 1941, the fleet consisted of nine battleships, three aircraft carriers, 12 heavy cruisers, eight light cruisers, 50 destroyers, and 33 submarines.
So after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the declaration of war by Germany only mere days after, the US had to start from scratch and prepare for War. While the US licked it’s wound, it planned and began production of what would be come the world’s greatest land, sea, and air armies. Old equipment had to be either upgraded or thrown out, while new equipment had to be developed, tested, produced and send to the front.
The first offensive strike the US made of the war was the next month, January 1942 when the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise attacked Japanese bases in the Marshall Islands. However US Sailors were already in the war months earlier in September of 1941 during the battle of the Atlantic as American Merchant ships were slaughtered by the German underwater menace known as the U-Boat.
Eventually lend least was sent to more and more nations, including the Soviet Union in October of 1941. This is why you see large quantities of M4A2 Shermans in Soviet Service.
Due to the lack of Modern Tanks in early 1941, we gave the soviets the best we had at the time, it might not have been much, but it was better than nothing.
Not only did the US help Russia, but the UK actually send plenty of it’s own Arms and Equipment as well, including Valentine and Matilda Infantry support tanks and aircraft. Below is a Hurricane Fighter/Bomber supplied by the United Kingdom.
From P-39 Airacobras, to M4 Shermans, to M1 Thompsons, to US supplied food, trucks, guns, boots, clothes, by 1943 the majority of the USSR’s logistics had US flags on it.
In a confidential interview with the wartime correspondent Konstantin Simonov, the famous Soviet Marshal G.K. Zhukov is quoted as saying:
“Today [1963] some say the Allies didn’t really help us… But listen, one cannot deny that the Americans shipped over to us material without which we could not have equipped our armies held in reserve or been able to continue the war.
“
US lend lease amounted to 48,395,000,000~ dollars in sales to other nations. Keep in mind that the number back then, is much bigger today due to inflation.
Roughly 17.5 million tons of military equipment, vehicles, industrial supplies, and food were shipped from the Western Hemisphere to the USSR, 94% coming from the US. For comparison, a total of 22 million tons landed in Europe to supply American forces from January 1942 to May 1945. It has been estimated that American deliveries to the USSR through the Persian Corridor alone were sufficient, by US Army standards, to maintain sixty combat divisions in the line.
The United States sold to the Soviet Union from October 1, 1941 to May 31, 1945 the following: 427,284 trucks, 13,303 combat vehicles, 35,170 motorcycles, 2,328 ordnance service vehicles, 2,670,371 tons of petroleum products (gasoline and oil) or 57.8 percent of the High-octane aviation fuel, 4,478,116 tons of foodstuffs (canned meats, sugar, flour, salt, etc.), 1,911 steam locomotives, 66 Diesel locomotives, 9,920 flat cars, 1,000 dump cars, 120 tank cars, and 35 heavy machinery cars. Provided ordnance goods (ammunition, artillery shells, mines, assorted explosives) amounted to 53 percent of total domestic production. One item typical of many was a tire plant that was lifted bodily from the Ford Company’s River Rouge Plant and transferred to the USSR. The 1947 money value of the supplies and services amounted to about eleven billion dollars. Certainly a bit more than Issuing loans, don’t you think?
Even some of the famous Katyusha rocket trucks were based on US models. The one below is based on the Studebaker US6.
The United Kingdom received the majority of the US lend lease, at about ¾ths, however the USSR got most of the rest.
During 1942 alone, the USA was able to shift the tide in the Pacific nearly single handedly and began it’s long bloody battle against the Germans and Italians in Africa, Italy, and Europe.
With the defensive battles at Wake Island, Bataan, and Port Moresby, the US had little to no time to reinforce the fighting positions and bases they had set up in the Pacific which led to most of them being overrun and captured by the Japanese.
The battle of Midway rested upon early warning and code breaking. The U.S. had an excellent track record against Japanese codes and ciphers before World War II, and this experience, combined with a variety of other sources of intelligence, helped the U.S. uncover the upcoming attack on Midway Island.
After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Navy cryptographers, with assistance from both British cryptographers at the Far East Combined Bureau (in Hong Kong, later Singapore, later Ceylon), and Dutch cryptographers (in the Dutch East Indies), combined to break enough JN-25 traffic to provide useful intelligence reports and assessments regarding Japanese force disposition and intentions in early 1942. Naval Officer Joesph Rochefort would often go for days without emerging from his bunker, where he and his staff spent 12 hours a day, or even longer, working to decode Japanese radio traffic. He often wore slippers and a bathrobe with his khaki uniform and sometimes went days without bathing.
Luckily his stubborness paid off. While the majority of the US Command believed the Japanese wanted to attack the
Aleutian Islands
near Alaska,
Rochefort believed an unknown codegroup, AF, referred to Midway.
One of the Station HYPO staff, Jasper Holmes, had the idea of faking a water supply failure on Midway Island. He suggested using an unencrypted emergency warning, in the hope of provoking a Japanese response, thus establishing whether Midway was a target. Rochefort took the idea to Layton, who put it to Nimitz. Nimitz approved.
The Japanese took the bait and the learned not only of the attack, but what day it was planned to happen.
June 4th, 1942. The battle where the Japanese lost the initiative in the Pacific. Losing four fleet carriers against US carrier based and land based aircraft. While the US only lost one carrier and a destroyer. This shocked the world. Not only did the US win against a superior fleet, but it decimated the Japanese Navy’s ability to strike offensively. It became a huge moral booster for the Americans and a stunning blow to the Japanese. Midway Island remained in US hands while the Japanese retreated to their islands to set up defensively.
On the other side of the world however, The US was making plans to make it’s first strikes at Germany and Italy, producing the equipment, then moving the equipment across the Atlantic Ocean is no easy task, but nobody could have done it like the USA did.
The next major military operation was Operation Torch on November 8, 1942, it was the final nail that sealed the coffin of Rommel’s famed Afrika Korps.
The first Major Defeat of US Forces was at Kasserine Pass in 1943 when 6,500+ US soldiers fell victim to superior tactics and superior enemy firepower.
The battle was the first major engagement between American and Axis forces in World War II in Africa. Inexperienced and poorly led American troops suffered many casualties and were quickly pushed back over 50 miles from their positions west of Faïd Pass. After the early defeat, elements of the U.S. II Corps, with British reinforcements, rallied and held the exits through mountain passes in western Tunisia, defeating the Axis offensive. As a result of the battle, the U.S. Army instituted sweeping changes of unit organization and replaced commanders and some types of equipment. After learning from their mistakes they were ready to continue with the war in Africa.
With the start of the US Island Hopping Campaign and the closing of the Africa Campaign, the War was starting to look a little bit better, however the battles to come would tell that the price for victory, is blood.
While I am leaving out key events such as the doolittle raid and war crimes committed against US soldiers during the Bataan death march, I believe you might be able to understand a bit better that the US did not play around when it came to the early portion of the Second World War.
If you need more information, don’t be afraid to ask.
OP doesn’t seem that knowledgeable about the Second World War. The war couldn’t have been won without American help, and saying that does not diminish the efforts of the USSR and UK.
First off, let’s just stop right there.
Let us imagine, for a moment, a world where the U.S. was not attacked in the Pacific and was isolationist, and decided that it would not join in on the lend-lease, shall we?
Without the equipment and supplies sent to the USSR, the Red Army wouldn’t have been able to support or maintain itself, not to mention maintain structure or order considering scumfuck Stalin spent the last decade ‘purging’ half of the entire army and officer corps. In our reality, during Barbarossa, the Wehrmacht got stuck outside of Moscow due to resistance and unexpected difficulties with the weather and an undersupply of winter gear and equipment. In this alternate reality, given the fact that there’d be much less resistance, the Heer could have just awaited shipments of supplies of their own and then easily made the March on Russia’s capital, crushing the morale of the Soviet Union, and capturing a vast chunk of the USSR as a whole. Are y’all familiar with Stalingrad? The Soviets didn’t have enough weapons for everyone so maybe one in five Red Army soldiers had a rifle and the rest ran towards the Germans in human waves, hoping to reach them and take their weapons. As if those odds weren’t awful enough, their officers set up machine-guns behind them, so if they tried to turn and run from the German guns, they were killed by their own for desertion. Now, imagine that, but on a much larger scale – every city and enemy force the Heer encounter, all sparsely armed at best. Plus, it’s known that something like 80% of the population of Russia live in that small, western portion of the country, so once the Moscow region and what lied so immediately ahead was occupied, it would have been smooth sailing for the Wehrmacht.
And after Dunkirk, England and her commonwealth were in no position to make any offensive plays against the mainland of the European continent, even the commando raids wouldn’t have been possible. Without American supply, and a Japanese seizure of her Far Eastern colonies like Singapore and Hong Kong, chances are she’d have been käput. Not to mention the fact that without American lend-and-lease to China’s nationalist forces, combined with the fact that the Soviets would be occupied if not obliterated, the Japanese Army would have swept right through the Chinese mainland, South through Vietnam and Burma, and North through Mongolia, probably right into the Soviet Union itself, meaning the already stunted Red Army would now be fighting a two-front conflict.
Also, in terms of British colonies, the Japanese would have eventually moved Westward, onto India and Pakistan and so-on. In real life, the Japanese formed the Indian National Army, which was a volunteer force of Indians who vowed to ally with the Japanese Army to fight British imperialism and remove them from India. Imagine such an army gaining a strong headwind in this alternate reality of ours. If the force swelled substantially, the Japanese might have even offered their German allies to let the Indian force assist in an invasion force during Operation Sea lion, the Nazi invasion of England, which thank God never occurred.
It takes a lot of gall to even consider saying the US did little to nothing in the Pacific and that the battle for Okinawa was insubstantial. The force “tenth the size” of the one on the Asian mainland was like that for a reason, ya dingleberry. By 1945 the US Asiatic force of my beloved Marines, sailors, coastguardsmen, and to a somewhat lesser extent, soldiers, had spent about 4 years draining Japanese resources and manpower. Because of the reallocation of troops and supplies from the Asia front to the Pacific theatre by the Japanese command, combined with American lend-lease to China’s forces, (who were, at the time, on the losing end of the battle) the Chinese, both communist in the north and nationalist in the south, were resupplied, and by 1944, assisted by American troops on the ground, and were able to change the momentum of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Suddenly the Japanese were on the defensive in the Chinese mainland. The “largest army that was defeated in a week” was an irregular force of multiple divisions made up of smaller disbanded companies, more than half replacements, who were cut off and undersupplied, and because of American lend-lease to the Soviet Union and the true reestablishment of the Red Army, combined with the draining to the Pacific mentioned earlier, and the fact that the USSR decided to declare war on Japan the day after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the Soviets were easily able to steamroll into Manchuria and most of the Japanese they encountered surrendered without a fight. Funnily enough the Soviet ‘liberators’ were arguably worse than the Japanese, establishing North Korea and in doing so the Korean War a few years later. Not to mention the Soviets took all the Japanese prisoners of war, and instead of sending them home after the war ended, sent them by rail to gulags and labor camps in the Soviet union to work as slave laborers, where roughly half of them died over just 3 years, but that’s another story for another time.
In the Pacific, the USMC liberated island after island, one by one, from Wake Atoll, to Vella La Vella, to Guam. Even those that were not American territories, and therefore not our problem, like New Guinea and the Dutch East Indies. Meanwhile, the US Army fought through the Philippines. The U.S. in the Pacific were fighting hard as hell, but we were making great progress. We were cruising on the way to Japan like:
(I’d like to add in here on a personal note, that although we, the US, were fighting to dismantle Japanese imperialism, the US had no legitimate claim to these territories either, and were pretty hypocritical, being imperialists ourselves. Don’t get me started on the UK!)
Now, the “starving” Japanese troops you speak of are a different story. Those on floating bloodbaths like Pelelieu were not only well supplied, but extremely dug in and awaiting our arrival. As a matter-of-fact, I believe it was at Pelelieu that the Japanese had actually stationed a division of Manchukuo troops, from China, alongside regular Japanese infantry, so that’s a perfect example of the aforementioned ‘drainage’ from the Asia front. What you’re referencing about the starvation didn’t occur until 1945. After 3 going on 4 years of dismantling the Japanese war machine, several islands of Japanese troops were left isolated and because of such immense American presence and anti-shipping attacks in the region, places like Truk were unable to be resupplied by the Japanese Merchant Fleet, so yes there were islands of “starving Japanese”, but instead of invading them, we skipped over them and let them starve while the US simply moved on, closing in on the Japanese home islands. I’m not saying that was ok, it’s terrible that at times men had to resort to literally eating their prisoners and civilians to survive, but they were our enemy and we gave them the choice to surrender. Now, again, the “small force” that the USMC, US Army, and USN fought and died to defeat on Okinawa (the force was not small by any means btw) was the size it was as a direct result of American efforts in the Pacific, and equally importantly American lend-lease to China which lead to an ever crumbling Japanese Army. The battle raged so hard because, as the Japanese knew, this was their last stand before the Americans reached the Japanese mainland. They were shook, and pissed!
Now, nobody is denying the blood spilled by the Soviet Red Army or the British Commonwealth, or the Chinese, or anyone. But to even consider the allies winning the war without America is farfetched, and quite frankly, intellectually dishonest. We realistically could have wound up in a Man in The High Castle world, simply because of America deciding not to supply the allies. An American isolationist policy of literal non-involvement could really have been that detrimental. So yes, in WW2, America was the deciding factor, like it or not.
And I’d like to add in, death to all fascists, and commies, too! As well as historical revisionists!
Relevant again because the historical revisionists are back at it with their bs
Back at you again with the Historical Smackdown
Oh boy this was a good one
Oh so just because they didn’t throw men down the fucking drain that means they didn’t do anything?
Fucking Communists are next level bullshit.
>when history revisionisim downplays the US contribution to WW2 by forgetting the industrial might that the axis powers also didn’t comprehend or account for, to their own downfall
I think we should all celebrate by taking a moment to appreciate Robert Pattinson’s attitude and I’m laughing so much right now.
JUST ALL THAT HE IS.
I mean
LOOK
Robert Pattinson’s ‘Twilight’ commentary.
I just
I’m going to miss this
the last twilight movie came out in 2012. it is now 2018. i just want to know who the hell reblogged this 6 year old post onto my dash. because i love you
It actually made me go from hating the actors to loving them once I realized they thought the books and movies were as shitty as I thought they were
so apparently Minecraft did this thing where people submitted their own builds to be made into steel structures that would be used to regrow coral in coral reefs, and one of the ones that got selected is a fishwolf, so now there is an actual physical minecraft wolf mermaid hybrid at the bottom of the ocean saving the coral reefs and i am living
