O, Great god Anubis
Who guards the scales of Ma’at
He who judges the passed
Give me your strength, power, and watchful eye
Guard my being, if you will
Be with me as I tackle the challenges of this day

Natron Recipe
Natron is used as a purification element in Kemeticism. You can combine it with body oils to purify yourself, add it to your water in a ritual bath, use it to purify your sacred space, etc.
I found a recipe for making natron from here.
To make natron:
- Preheat oven to 300-325°F (149-163°C)
- Mix 1 part baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and 1 part salt (sodium chloride) in a deep saucepan.
- Add enough water to cover the dry ingredients.
- Boil the mixture. Don’t boil too long — the goal is to melt the ingredients into the water
- Heat until the mixture becomes a thick but spreadable paste.
- Spread mixture on a cookie sheet lined with tin foil and put pan in oven.
The baking process can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on quantity. If you do not wish to bake your natron, you may leave it in a safe place indoors. Do not try to dry your natron outside; this will allow bugs and dirt to make your natron impure.
Kosher salt is the most preferable kind of salt, but any salt without iodine will do. Sea salt should be used carefully as there is a toxicity risk. Avoid ingesting the natron/water solution as much as possible.
A Poem for The Red Lord
Lord of Storms, Bringer of Change,
What do I want from this exchange?
You hang around, invade my mind,
If this is real, it’s not very kind,I look back, on those strange moods,
and I have to ask, was that you?
Am I confused? You want me to veil?
Or is that just my mind spinning tales? So many projects, and all for you,
It’s all I can do to not feel screwed
My thinkpan spirals, I need to do something,
Why this urge? Do you want another offering? It’s as if we’re busy, leaving messages via friends
The problem is, they get garbled in the end,
You want something, right? Just be clear, please
You know I can’t afford to go out for Chinese.Or could it be that this is all in my head?
I’ve just been talking to air and over waving my hands over bread.and then the rain comes, and the storm rages above
and then all I can feel is a strange peace and love,
The fear and the anger, it’s still there, hidden,
but somehow, the thunder makes it forbidden,
perhaps not forbidden, but subdued at least,
alright, fine, I’ll get you that treat.– r.h © 2016
I’m designing a pendant for Set that I’m going to get LazerTees to make, and I was trying to write something meaningful or poignant or just write something that I was happy with to engrave on the back.
The annoyance and confusion and general difficulty in communicating with Set and finding out what he wants over the past few days, combined with the lack of the right words coming, ended up in a completely different piece than intended.
It felt nice to get it out though, and the rain actually did start and it is actually pouring outside, so I’m going to take this as a sign to continue working on the image for the next few days, and just let the words come when they come.
Warning: Heavy UPG Incoming
Feel free to debate the finer points on this, as I am a newbie to Kemeticism (not a recon?) and, well, Set.
Set definitely gets a bad rap that is undeserved. As the remover of isfet, it’s conqueror, he often mistakenly gets treated as the source of it. This comes from both the Greeks politically equating him with their Typhon to symbolically remove his ability to cast off invaders (as Typhon is defeated by Zeus, who is chief of the Greek pantheon, so they hoped that Zeus could defeat Set— also the syncretism was something frequently discounted by less hellenized Egyptians, as with the Theban Devotee, who scoffed at it and was quite proud to be Set’s standard bearer), and an epithet of his- “Lord of Isfet”. This is statement of pwnage to the worm and its corrupted creatures— not a statement that he is one of them. It is a statement that he is Master and they will depart at his command or they will be destroyed.
His chaos is khenenu, which is perfectly within Ma’at, divine uproar– and he is Shed and Shed-Kheru— the Savior and the maker of Khenenu. Divine uproar does not seek to harm anything but the wicked. Set can also be very gentle– he has a myth cycle with Horit and Djehuty involving the Tale of the Far Goddess with a beautiful mystery attached to it. In ancient times the Prophet of Set in the temple of Amun was consulted by the medjayu, the police, and in that he was considered a force of great good. He is frequently the defender of the wretched and the wronged, those that must confront their fears and fight isfet in the small scale directly- soldiers, the police, etc.
Don’t be afraid of him. He is not a God you need to fear. His heart is very big and very soft. He cries when Anat loses her temper with him and slaps him, so pitiful she drags him off to Anpu to look at his face. In his Northern heaven is the tree on which the Bas of the gods sit and sing. He’s half of the ladder of heaven. And I could probably go on singing his praises forever lol…
If you want to speak more about Set, I have oodles to say and things to show you- just message me.
This comment, I like it. Therefore, I’m going to reblog it.
And to the OP, as far as I can tell, Sutekh showed up in my life to help me deal with my anxiety issues. I’m not even sure if he’ll stick around once he deems I’m coping sufficiently well. And honestly, IDK what he gets out of this deal.
It’s pure speculation, but, well, I think of my anxiety as pretty isfetful, so battling it, and doing things despite anxiety is, therefore, ma’atful. And I kind of wonder if it’s a particular sort of ma’atfulness that Sutekh especially can benefit from, given his role battling and defeating the most isfetful thing there is, A/pep. Like I don’t even know if ma’at can work that way, like if ma’atful acts can benefit one Deity more than others because of the type of action it is, but it offers me some kind of explanation why Sutekh would show up just to help with my anxiety.
super quick reminder: it’s perfectly okay if you don’t “feel” your Gods all the time (or rarely at all), if they don’t talk to you, etc. remember that this is a religion, and like all religions, it’s based in faith. the fact that they don’t shout in your ear everytime you pray doesn’t mean they’re not there.
I’m just going to be over here banging a drum and chanting “DEITIES ARE MULTIFACETED BEINGS AND SAYING THAT THEY ARE ALL LOVE AND LIGHT OR DOOM AND GLOOM IS INACCURATE!”
LET FREYR HAVE GLITTER DAMMIT!
More glitter for all the Gods indeed 🙂
For the Red Lord
They said you were a storm
and they were right.I did not expect (accept) that storm
to be one of healing
and grief.And finally there is
acceptance of who
I am, and even though
I am still learning.Great of Strength, show me
the ways that I am loved–you are right,
that I have those who’s love for me has no
“if"s, no “you need to be"s. It’s seeing that love
that is the challenge.
In Thanks to Set for the Coming of Rain
Hail to you, Set!
He Before Whom the Sky Shakes, hail!
You have turned Your green face to us and smiled
You have looked upon us favorably
And brought us life-giving rain.
Lord of the Red Land, Mighty One of Two-Fold Strength!
The stormclouds weep with joy at Your presence!
Your blessing falls upon the land
To sweep away the winter for spring to come
Black soil bearing rich green life.
Oh Set, Lord of the Oasis,
Your storms roll over us in peace
Water runs sweet to slake Geb’s thirst
Yet Your blessings protect us
From lashing winds and roaring floods.
You are truly the Lord of Life!
I raise my arms to the sky in praise of You, Set!
Lord of the Storm!
I touch my mouth to the ground in awe of Your Power, Set!
Lord of the Northern Sky!
Dua Dua Dua Dua!
