also i don’t want to be too intense about this or pretend that the people who did cap 3 are THIS obsessively aware of specific 616 iron man material, but do you remember iron man v1 #318 when we get a flashback of young adult 616 tony mourning his parents, at the funeral he specifically equates their deaths to a “candle blown out by the wind, entropy wins.” it’s part of a discussion of tony’s metaphysical skepticism, and the issue as a whole turns out to be about memory, legacy, revenge, forgiveness, future, etc
i mean again, i’m not saying anyone read this issue, but mcu tony DOES try to blow out a candle in that augmented reality memory thing, and the flame doesn’t go out or respond to him at all, which is a painful reminder of the immutability of history and the power of memory – what happened, happened, it’s unchanging, and in his maturity tony makes that point in a speech that turns out to be a call for action in name of the future
WHAT I’M SAYING IS, there IS such a thing as being into such a GLORIOUS CHARACTERIZATION MENTAL IRON MAN ~ZONE that the most RANDOM DETAILS you decide to add in – for instance, “hey, what if tony tried to interact with this candle while talking about memory?” – turns out to Speak to the core of the iron man mythos as it was developed over decades of history
