Ok, I know I might get some enemies by saying this but may I remind you of the time when we saw Infinity War and were angry about Loki’s portrayal? At that time I haven’t seen barely no post about Loki’s story coming full circle. But now that the one who knows him best – and don’t get me wrong, Tom’s opinion has a lot of weight for me – but now that he said he feels Loki’s story came full circle and Loki felt „the strength of his father’s love“ everyone seems to forget their own opinion from April this year and agree with him. Do you change your mind so easily because you want to have the same opinion as Tom? As I said. I adore this man and his words a lot. But that doesn’t mean I have to agree with everything he does or says. Sometimes I don‘t get people’s behavior.
Okay, I’m literally going to be pouring my heart out here to the Loki fandom. Before I started this blog I was known by another name, janefosterinfinitywarimagines. I started the blog back in February because there was such high energy following Ragnarok. I will never forget the energy and enthusiasm in the Loki fandom and a good portion of the MCU fandom as well. And it was all for the becoming of one character, Loki of Asgard.
Loki has had quite a journey in these past years. He started off as a carefree prince who wanted the best for his kingdom, even if that meant ruining his brother’s coronation. Loki’s love and loyalty for Asgard was and is still very strong. Then so much happened that went out of control and he ended up falling into the worst company possible, Thanos and The Black Order.
Fast forward, Loki had to play the part of the villain in order to spectacularly lose so he could be taken back to Asgard. The MCU can try to retcon all they want on this. Loki, who recently found out he was adopted, was told by his adoptive father his birthright is to die. That’s something you can never take back, ever and the emotional impact it had on Loki would affect him for rest of his life.
At that point, Loki’s self worth took a turning point. He was kept in the Asgardian dungeons for who knows how long and the only company he had was an illusion of Frigga. No one bothered to ask him what happened between the time of his fall and the siege he ran on Earth. No one bothered to ask him if there were others involved. Then the Dark Elves incident occurred and he saw an opportunity, he didn’t know where that opportunity would lead but he took and ran with it as best as he could, including risking his life twice for Jane Foster. Following this opportunity, he was injured very badly but recovered and went back to Asgard where he did the nicest thing he could have done, put a spell on Odin and exile him to Earth. He was king of Asgard disguised as Odin for four years.
Now, this is probably where I am going to get some negative feedback because I don’t agree completely on how Loki was written in Ragnarok, even though Tom did a phenomenal job as always. There are so many plot holes in that movie and things to pick apart in it. Loki’s iconic “Your savior is here!” scene, however, is very much in character and speaks volumes of the sheer character development and potential he has.
This character’s story is not done yet!
He came back to Asgard to help Thor and his citizens! For four years, the citizens of Asgard were ruled by and probably communicated with Loki without even knowing it! I’m not even going to go into the emotional impact Loki felt watching Asgard explode. So many memories. Gardens, libraries, running down halls, sitting up in trees writing as he watched Thor and the others spar, and there are just too many memories that he watched explode in front of him in seconds.
Then the moment when he stepped up next to Hulk by Thor’s side. Oh my gosh. That alone was such an emotional impactful moment because he realized he needs to be by Thor’s side. He was so nervous about going back to Earth that he asked Thor about it!
So, now he’s thinking about his return to Earth and probably how he can use the tesseract to barter for the safety of his citizens to live their lives on Earth.
Then Thanos happens and all the potential of those thought processes disappear because a nightmare he completely forgot about appeared. Now following the months before Infinity War there were so many theories. So many. I wrote a few of them myself I think on janefosterinfinitywarimagines. A majority of those theories were about Loki getting away from Thanos with the tesseract or using the tesseract to transport the entire ship to Earth, specifically Wakanda. Can you imagine that? Wakanda having a normal day and then this giant space ship with hundreds of Asgardian citizens on board comes out of no where.
Then Infinity War happened…….and Loki despite being a master sorcerer…..despite being a king of Jotunheim who probably had the casket of ancient winters with him…….is killed five minutes into the movie.
That’s…….that’s not a full circle for a character. That’s cutting off a character’s potential to think and act as his own person before he could even begin.
Sokka: “I know, I had the same reaction. After all he’s done it was hard to trust him. But he’s really proven himself and I never would have found you without his help.”
Elizabeth I of England: illegitimate, false queen and usurper. Mary Stuart was the rightful queen of England and Scotland.
damn y’all got wifi in 1587?
Well if we’re going by Henry VIII’s rule of law then Mary Stewart doesn’t have a claim either because he disinherited Margaret’s heirs! So technically the rightful heir to the throne after Mary I was Lady Catherine Grey, Countess of Hertford who was also the younger sister of Lady Jane Grey.
