a) it’s not considered a crime to murder an elf. like, just throwing that one out there first thing. human society does not even think murdering an elf counts as actual murder because lol just an elf. alienage aren’t ~full of butterflies~ because forcing people into slums is like, bad and stuff, maybe?
b) mages aren’t allowed to have families without extremely special dispensation and acts of heroism that, let’s be real here, they rarely have the chance to perform in the first place because oh yes, they’re all taken from their families before puberty and subsequently forbidden from leaving. (unless their families are rich!) they can also be murdered at any point, without trial or being allowed to defend themselves, just because someone else decides the whole tower is a lost cause and you might as well slaughter everyone. yes, everyone. yes, including the literal kindergarten-age children that were just taken from their families like i mentioned. crazy how all of that kind of screams “no individual rights”, haha amirite?
c) the only people who claim the dalish hunt humans for sport are… humans. humans, who are known to brag about their necklace of elven ears. humans, who in orlais consider riding through an alienage to kill an elf is a rite of passage for the chevaliers. humans, who in ferelden can abduct and murder women straight out of the alienage in full view of a revered mother. like, the few times dalish kill humans in canon it is in defense of their clan.
d) meredith became a templar because she looked at the system that terrified her shy and reserved sister into choosing monstrosity over whatever horror they would have inflicted on her, and her choice was to MAKE THE SYSTEM WORSE INSTEAD OF BETTER. if amelia had not been terrified, if the circles were not prisons and templars not literal fucking jailers with full sanction to do whatever they want to their prisoners as long as no one too important gets wind of it, if she had been able to know that she would be able to see her family whenever she wanted, maybe she wouldn’t have been so frightened. the answer is not “be more harsh,” it’s “be more compassionate,” which meredith did not do.
e) the chantry is literally racist, part of their entire religious doctrine is “every single race must be converted to the chant and fuck their heathen gods”. considering the dalish “the maker’s children” even though they don’t believe in the maker is like, disgustingly condescending at best.
in conclusion, the chantry is garbage and if the games won’t let me burn it the fuck down then the best i can do is put leliana in charge to fix what’s broke.
