what she says: i’m fine

what she means: i don’t understand why people dislike boromir so much, he was such an amazing character, deeply flawed, but loyal and brave, and that’s what makes him human. He’s the most human character by far in the lotr trilogy because he made mistakes, but he came back from that and sacrifced himself to protect others. He kept fighting with multiple arrows sticking out of his chest just so that the hobbits wouldn’t be overrun. He’s one of the best characters in lotr but he’s sadly overlooked

So, when I was doing my thesis on whether or not fanfiction should be considered a legitimate genre of literature, my advising professor asked me for examples.  I gave him the generic ones, of course – “Pride & Prejudice and Zombies” is a horror fanfic of “Pride & Prejudice”, “50 Shades of Grey” is an erotica fic of “Twilight" – and that seemed to make him understand what fanfiction is, but not how it’s useful.  So I thought about it, and, after about a minute, I said, “Paradise Lost is basically a fanfiction of the Book of Genesis.  And The Divine Comedy is an epic self-insertion fic for Catholic doctrine.  So, basically, you were teaching us fanfiction last semester.”  I had never before seen a grown man’s eyes widen with such fear, incomprehension, disgust, awe, and understanding.

#does that mean the renaissance was almost entirely fan art?

Submerged love.

#look! how happy! she is!  #the main misconception i had about this movie was that it was a love story about both of them  #when it’s more truly a love story about HER  #its not like beauty and the beast where we spend a lot of time on the beast’s own journey  #this is still similar to that story but the journey is 100% HERS  #it’s less girl next door and the elemental river god who loves her  #and more girl next door and her love for an elemental river god  #that subtle difference in subject  #i just love how the illustrated girl-and-fish image of this moment is sort of ethereal and dreamlike  #but the reality of the moment is her delighted face!!

baby: m…m…ma…
mother: mama? are you trying to say mama?
baby: m…ma..many people seem to think that Boromir is a quote-on-quote “bad character” or “morally grey” because he makes literally one mistake, which is ironic considering the one mistake he does make is the same mistake that we are told throughout all the Lord of the Rings films is only too easy to succumb to–almost no one can resist the power of the Ring. And besides that, the only reason that Boromir even desired the Ring in the first place was for the sake of saving the people of Gondor, because he was such a pure-hearted and just man, and after the Ring takes him and he lashes out at Frodo, he shows IMMENSE remorse, and is seen next calling out softly for Frodo and sobbing on the forest floor, saying he is sorry. When next we see him, he runs to the aid of Merry and Pippin when they are ambushed by the Uruk-hai pack heading for Isengard, and he defends them with his life, fighting even after he has been shot by an arrow multiple times (in severely vulnerable locations, I might add). With his final breaths, he tells Aragorn that he would’ve followed him as his captain and king, and we see that he has not forgiven himself for what happened with Frodo even as he draws his final breath. Do not ever insult Boromir in front of me. Ever. Be at peace, son of Gondor. I’m sobbing
