hymn to Ra

edgyzeal:

“A Hymn of Praise to Ra When He Riseth in the Eastern Heaven.”

Homage to Thee, O Thou Who art Ra when Thou risest and Tmu when Thou settest. Thou rise, Thou rise; Thou shine, Thou shine, Thou Who art crowned King of the Gods. Thou art the Lord of Heaven, Thou art the Lord of Earth, Thou art the Creator of those who dwell in the heights and of those who dwell in the depths. Thou art the One God who came into being in the beginning of time. Thou did create the earth, Thou did fashion man, Thou did make the watery abyss of the sky, Thou did form the Nile, and Thou art the Maker of streams and of the great deep, and Thou givest life to all that is therein. Thou hast knit together the mountains, Thou has made mankind and the beasts of the field, Thou hast created the heavens and the earth. Worshipped be Thou Whom the goddess Ma’at embraces at morn and at eve. Thou dost travel across the sky with heart swelling with joy; the Lake of Testes is at peace. The fiend Nak hath fallen and his two arms are amputated. The Sektet boat receives fair winds, and the Heart of Him that is in His Shrine rejoices. Thou art crowned with a heavenly form, the Only one, provided with all things. Ra cometh forth from Nu in triumph. O Thou mighty youth, Thou everlasting Son, Self-begotten, Who did give Thyself birth, O Thou Mighty One, of myriad forms and aspects, King of the World, Prince of Annu, Lord of Eternity and Ruler of the Everlasting, the company of the Gods rejoice when Thou rise and when Thou sail across the sky, O Thou Who art exalted in the Sektet boat. Homage to Thee, O Amon-Ra, Thou Who does rest upon Ma’at, Thou Who passes over the heaven, and every face sees Thee. Thou dost wax great as Thy Majesty doth advance, and the rays are upon all faces. Thou art unknown and cannot be searched out; Thou art the Only One. Men praise Thee in Thy Name Ra, and they swear by Thee, for Thou art Lord over them. Thou hast heard with Thine ears and Thou hast seen with Thine eyes. Millions of years have gone over the world; I cannot tell the number of them, through which Thou hast passed. Thy Heart hath decreed a day of happiness in Thy name of Ra. Thou dost pass over and travel through untold spaces of millions and hundreds of thousands of years; Thou set out in peace, and Thou steer Thy way across the watery abyss to the place which Thou lovest; this Thou doest in one little moment of time, and Thou dost sink down and makest and end of the hours. Hail my Lord, Thou that passest through eternity and Whose Being is everlasting. Hail Thou Disk, Lord of Beams and Light, Thou rise and Thou make all mankind to live. Grant Thou that I may behold Thee at dawn each day.

Hymn to Sobek

godsofsandandwater:

To Sobek, lord of the waterways, I offer my praise.
Son of Neith, the land of the lake is yours, O Sobek,
foremost of the crocodile gods. Well honored you were
in ancient Faiyum; great temples and monuments were built
in honor of your might, many were the prayers you answered,
many the offerings given you in thanks. O god of the marsh,
lord of the seed of men, fierce-hearted guardian,
defeater of the wicked, defender of the innocent,
undoer of evils; O raging and ravening one,
fearsome of countenance, pointed of teeth,
tall-plumed one who makes the herbage green,
inspirer of reverence and awe, benevolent one
whose bounty is unending, compassionate one
whose gifts are freely given, Sobek, O watchful one
whose strike is certain, I call to you with all devotion.

Hymn to Set

the-typhonian:

starsandepithets:

godsofsandandwater:

To Set of the shifting desert sands, I offer my praise.
Thundering son of the earth and the starry sky,
beloved of Nephthys who soothes the sorrowing,
defender of Ra on the bright sun-barque,
you stand at the bow, ever ready, ever able,
smiter of the serpent, battler of your brother,
lord of the red lands and of the oasis,
strong of arm and strong of resolve, I honor you.
Great is your mettle, great is your might,
O Set who sends the storm, whose power is of the will,
whose being is of necessity: yours are the days
of desperation, yours the times of transformation.
Shaker of the skies, O Set of many guises,
Set of many tales, to you do we turn for strength,
in you do we seek our survival–hail to you, O god!

@the-typhonian I thought you’d like it 🙂

gracias.

You can never explain to your former faith that the water is fine. That you went past the forbidden gate, and entered the forbidden water, and it is good, and healing, and refreshing.

They have been told the water is not fine. The water is poison. The water will make you sick, make your bones turn brittle and your skin melt off.

But you cannot use your health as proof of their error. Because they have a new answer now: it was a slow poison all along and one day those who entered the water will die a painful, gasping death with the water as the cause.

And when no one dies from the water, you still cannot tell them its fine. Because there’s another answer, too: that the water will get you after your dead, that the consequences are invisible, incomprehensible, known only on the other side of life.

There will always be another answer for why the water is poison, even if there is no proof. So all you can do is immerse yourself in the water. Find healing in it. Recognize that all along the forbidden gate was lying to you. Even if no one comes with you.

This is an incredible metaphor. I’m using “come on in, the water’s great” as an apostate motto from now on. ❌

the-typhonian:

Set’s the monster in the clouds
dancing across the desert on all four paws
the rays of the sun bouncing off his back as every leap he takes brings
a chorus of thunder to create the harsh storm music
but for our ears,
hundreds of miles away the music becomes disorted
our screens and keypads garble the music so instead of a beat we can
sway our bodies to it’s a slow, solem reminder of the power of the red lord
to dance with him we must close our screens and close our eyes
feel the wind press against our face, pushing us a step back as the
thunder beat picks up
You can hear it now,
one after the other. A solid beat. You move to it. The wind presses on harder
as you finally hear the monster’s music. It’s chaotic.
It’s fantastic.
With every beat your heart races. Chaos is good. it progresses us
along our paths and makes us grow, just like a young pup must grow into
a large, solem wolf. Set’s music is one of change, inner growth, and strength.
Listen to it and you shall dance and grow, and maybe again you can dance with the
lord for all the nights your heart desires, as the red sun goes down and the world
turns dark as Ra enters the underworld.

helvetica12point:

“Chief among these expressions is “to put god into one’s heart,” also renders as to “place” or “give” god into one’s heart.  This expression is so typical of the new movement that we can legitimately accord it the rank of a self-designation and eequate personal piety with “giving god into one’s heart.”

The active embrace of god is the third stage of the “history of the heart” discussed in chapter nine.  In the New Kingdom, the interventions of the deities into human affairs were no longer considered to be restricted to warfare or political history in the broader sense of the term.  They extended into all aspects of personal life.  Cases of miraculous healing, as well as of sudden sickness and misfortune, came to be interpreted as manifestations of divine power; life as a whole came to be seen as the object of divine attention and guidance….. Accordingly, the Middle Kingdom ideal of the “heart-guided” individual is replaced in the New Kingdom by that of the “god-guided heart.” The heart is no longer inscribed by society with the norms of ma’at, but has taken god into itself.  This ideal reflects a structural change in the concept of ma’at within a transformed religious context that now sets god and the world against each other and that sees the world as emanating from the creative, animating, and destiny-forging will of god.  Ma’at no longer refers to the principle of immanent justice, but is now the expression of a form of connectivity stemming from god’s will.  “Being just” no longer means integrating oneself into the network of the community via self-effacement and solidiarity, but now requires giving oneself up in humility and obedience to the will of god, who, as Amenemope declares, “gives ma’at to whom he pleases.

noquietrevolution:

divinity will stain your fingers and mouth like a pomegranate. it will swallow you whole and spit you out, wine-dark and wanting. you will reach for it again and again, greedy human fingers clutching at everything you can reach. the divine will curl its way through your veins and take you over, and it will not leave you quietly. i feel divinity in my bones like aching; like fire.
