 One of the most ancient of Egyptian deities, Anubis was guardian and protector of the dead, god of embalming, funerals, and death. Anubis ushered souls to the underworld and attended the weighing of the heart. He was known as “Imy-ut” (“He Who is In the Place of Embalming”), “nub-tA-djser” (“lord of the scared land”)
