Why would fish be taboo though? I thought that was only like a Wesir thing.
Well there goes the salmon dish I offered last week to him…
I really don’t think fish is taboo, he’s a crocodile and I’ve never heard of objections to pork or fish. I’ve heard objections to both with Wesir, but not Sobek.
this is why the discussion of taboos is so hard to really follow. Because taboos shifted location to location, era to era.
F’ex, “everyone” knows that you shouldn’t give fish to Osiris, yeah? Well if you look through O’Connor’s book on Abdyos (you know, the O HQ in Upper Egypt), he mentions that fish is on the offering lists for one of O’s festivals.
So yeah, taboos really are very much YMMV.
The post in the link mentions that some things are historical while others are UPG, so I think that needs to be kept in mind when looking through the page.
