More Costuming Thoughts for Season 2
- Dan pretty much wears the same thing all the time. Leather jacket for police work over a v-neck sort of dad cardigan. Jeans and boots. Does this man own other clothes? help him.
- This symbolizes how run-of-the mill boring Dan is. He has a routine and he doesn’t mess with it. He looks like what he is and he doesn’t mess with it. Very practical, blue collar simplicity in contrast to Lucifer who also has a set wardrobe but is much more debonair.
- Chloe is also very basic and by the book, but she has more diversity in her clothing. She usually wears jeans or trousers, a shirt, and a jacket or coat of some kind. The coat is so that she can carry a concealed weapon, but it also makes her look very closed off and covered up.
- Especially in season two, she’s been wearing a lot of baggy, draping sweaters, big coats, and high collars. Chloe is always closed off in addition to being practical. Sometimes her clothes even seem to dwarf her, making her look even smaller next to Lucifer’s perfect tailoring. But there is a fashionable not to her clothing, very clean lines and fashionable silhouettes, simple dark colors that mirror more subdued fashion. Accidentally or not, Chloe rocks a lot of looks.
- Maze started out in tight cut leather, with more skin covered when she ventured out of Lux; leather jackets, bodysuits, and that rocking fur cape. In season 2 we see her branching out more. She wears lighter colors, plays around with her hair, even wears a t-shirt in a recent preview image. She’s beginning to experiment with her look even if she still sticks with vamp-y style.
- Her hair is especially notable. Usually it’s down, despite her being a fighter. When she pulls it up it means she’s anticipating a fight, physical or emotional. Whether winning a bet or planning on torturing Charlotte, Maze pulls her hair back when she means business.
- Amenadiel is getting more and more human as time goes by. Long gone is the avante garde robe, he’s gone native. We first see him in a suit, very formal. Then he moves onto dark, simple clothing, that still echoes the knightly, priestly themes of his old clothes. Lots of high collars, heavy boots, cable knits that mimic chain mail, that sort of thing. But as he falls and his life falls apart, he drops the pretense and ends up in a t-shirt and jeans.
- Linda has the most colorful, variable clothing, a reflection of her femininity, professionalism, and the fact that she has the time and money to put together pretty business casual outfits. She wears lots of heels, pant suits, pretty dresses, and pencil skirts. She also runs the gamut from dark and serious to sweet florals.
- Charlotte may be wearing Maze’s clothes for most of her appearances so far, but it’s notable which ones she wears. A lot of them have white in them, or white and black contrasts. Even her lawyer getup sticks with that dichotomy.
- Ella is a bit of an enigma, but she does mirror the other police officer characters in that she’s usually seen with some sort of outerwear. In addition her clothes are all very soft, hoodies, tank tops, what looks like yoga pants. Even her bun is fluffy. She’s the gentler, more casual alternative to sharp, dangerous Chloe.
