30 Day Ship Challenge, THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
Ship: Megamind & Roxanne Ritchi
From: MegamindOkay, I’ll admit, Roxanne’s character design kinda creeps me out sometimes (her waist is paaaaaainful), but I LOVE LOVE LOVE her character, and not just ‘cause she’s voiced by Tina Fey. And for all that Megamind is the “villain”, he’s respectful and sweet and painfully socially awkward in ways I can absolutely relate to. (Code: I want to be Roxanne! Code: but I’m really more like Megamind.)
Their relationship is not only interesting as it develops but… surprisingly healthy. Sure there’s the deception, and that was soooooo wrong. Not gonna say it wasn’t. But when she finds out and confronts him on it and tells him to get lost, he… gets lost. In fact, he only tracks her down again because he needs her help. A villain with a name like “Megamind” goes to the
spunky girl reporterinvestigative journalist and says, “You’re the smartest person I know.”And, of course, compare Megamind’s respect of Roxanne and her wishes to Hal/Titan (the supposed hero, but really just a Nice Guy ™), who expects and feels entitled to her love and affection. Ugh ugh ugh. Titan gives me more nightmares than that cinematic classic, Event Horizon.
