I just read this article about how RDJ pushed for more screentime and had Cap3 changed from a proper sequel to the Winter Soldier to Civil War. So, to quote the article “ The smart money was on a third film focusing on the Winter Soldier’s rehabilitation: a redemption arc for Bucky Barnes and closure for Steve Rogers. (…) So if Civil War turns out to be an unsatisfying conclusion to The Winter Soldier, fans have an all-too pragmatic explanation to blame: Robert Downey Jr.’s contract negotiations.”

I don’t thank you for being so close in character to Tony Stark that you don’t know when it’s time to take a step back and let the others shine, Mr Downey Jr. Iron Man is an interesting character, but he already has the most screen time in the MCU, between his own movies and his huge lead role in the Avengers movies. I’m mad that screen time had to be taken from characters who deserved a proper development.

this is absolute garbage (no offense op, not your fault you read lies & believed it) and i’d say it’s a bit of a stretch calling anything posted on the daily dot an article.

captain america: civil war was originally meant to be captain america: serpent society, and in early announcements for the next phase of movies you can actually see the logo they had for it as confirmation.  so why the change? a diva actor trying to cling to a franchise sounds like a compelling narrative, if only it were true. but in reality, the russo brothers confirmed that serpent society was changed to civil war because dc announced batman vs superman and the russos wanted to compete with dc’s hero vs hero movie with one of their own. so what actually happened was bvs was announced, marvel wanted heroes vs heroes, they crawled to rdj to beg him to join (and if you recall there were articles about lengthy negotiations that almost fell through and it almost didn’t happen) and he joined, on the condition that he be allowed to work in depth with tony’s character, which is why tony gets so much stunning development in this movie and you can confirm this with interviews where they talk about rdj’s contribution to writing for HIS SCENES in this movie.

it was not a matter of robert downey jr “not taking a step back to let the others shine”, it had everything to do with marvel’s bottom line and competition with dc- they chased after rdj, not the other way around. spreading this sort of -it’d be generous to call it baseless, it’s outright proven false- accusation? that has no basis in reality is exactly what i’d expect of tumblr, and i know it plays into the current mainstream fandom hatred of tony, but rdj is not responsible for the serpent society film turning into a civil war one. if you want to blame someone for that, it’s the russos and kevin feige.

edit: BY THE WAY, the contract negotiations abt rdj leveraging for a bigger payday than his cast are also false. as you will also recall, there was a renegotiation of everyone’s contract over the amount of money they were paid by marvel a few years ago and this was DONE BY ROBERT DOWNEY JR. the only thing rdj has leveraged iron man’s popularity for is to get his coworkers a raise and get more input on tony’s development in a movie HE HAD NO INTENTION TO BE IN BEFORE MARVEL ASKED HIM. yeah, what a villain, am i right?
