No but let’s talk about Sam Wilson and how in one movie the writers undid every fandom trope we have about him
Because in Civil War, Sam gets to be ANGRY
Think about Sam, and what it must have been like to be in that room, being told by a white dude that he’s at fault for his own city being blown up
When it was their own goddamn government that had recruited (and been infected by) Nazis, when Sam had been pulled right back into the shit because it was the right thing to do
And here’s this white guy talking about his heart surgery as “perspective”
I bet Sam is sitting there thinking about his own service, wondering again if his missions has made sense or if his orders has come from Nazis too
Thinking about Riley and his own goddamn perspective
And then Steve – Lord, he loves Steve to death but Steve doesn’t have room in his head for anyone outside of “Bucky”
Once you say that fucking name he loses every brain cell he has in his head and Sam is just supposed to be okay with that
So they get “Bucky” and oh good for him he remembers some trivial ass detail and Steve looks like he’s going to cry over it and
That’s the moment we see Sam just give up on being the Saintly Voice of Reason character that we all write in fanfic, and that perfect, human moment is beautiful
Because when Steve comes over and voices the idea of calling Tony, instead of being a Wise and Flawless Counselor, Sam shoots the idea down out of hand
“Tony would never listen”
And instead of being a saint and deescalating the conflict, Sam is a person and he keeps trying to save the world, but he snips at Bucky constantly
(Because no, they are very much NOT cool)
And he is angry and petty and human and it’s beautiful
#And that fucking smile when Steve comes back for him #did he think – maybe in the back of his head – that Steve might run off with Bucky and leave them all there? #After all the emotional choices everyone – including Steve – had been making through that whole movie it wouldn’t be a stretch #and I’m sure Sam would feel guilty for losing faith. But Steve’s just another guy. A guy who found his long lost bff and probably #has no need for bff 2 anymore and busting 4 people out of a submerged prison has go to be a chore so #What did Sam think about in that cell? #I really want to know #Sam Wilson #cacw #cacw spoilers #this is the good shit (x)
Jesus just take my heart and tear it out
Because yes think of Sam trapped in there with no due process, no idea what is going to happen to him
And he got into all of this because he had the audacity to think he could save people again
And he watched Rhodey go down from friendly fire and that was the last thing he saw before he got hit by Tony
#DONT EVEN#i loved that we got to see sam angry at bucky because even though we all know bucky wasnt in control of himself#sam isnt obligated to trust him#and that just shows how much of a better person sam is than t*ny because#even though hes angry at bucky and at how steve seems to get lost when it comes to him#not once did he attack him in the movie#or try to kill him for the events of the winter soldier#was he happy that bucky was there? nah it takes time for someone to regain trust#but he did not go gung ho about it#also that smile he sent to steve when steve rescued him was some gay ass shit#im really emotional bc i wonder if he did figure himself as the 2nd best friend#sam is one of the most important people in steves life pls and thank you (via reyskywalkver)
