At the beginning of the war, Rachel was an outstanding student. She had a straight-A average, and she managed to maintain it for a long time (and without Tobias’ help, however suspicious Marco was). In her study area at home she had a bulletin board
where she had put little wise sayings on Post-it notes.
When the war grew darker, the notes grew too, until she decided it was too dangerous to keep them at the wall.

When she realized she wouldn’t outlive the war, she slowly began to slip with her studies. She never failed an exam, but she certainly wasn’t on the top of every class. When her teachers approached her and told her that teenagers always think that school doesn’t affect their future, she tried not to be hurt even thogh she knew she wouldn’t have a future as they thought of it no matter how hard she tried.
