Natron Recipe

rainhappily:

Natron is used as a purification element in Kemeticism. You can combine it with body oils to purify yourself, add it to your water in a ritual bath, use it to purify your sacred space, etc.

I found a recipe for making natron from here.

To make natron:

  1. Preheat oven to 300-325°F (149-163°C)
  2. Mix 1 part baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and 1 part salt (sodium chloride) in a deep saucepan.
  3. Add enough water to cover the dry ingredients.
  4. Boil the mixture. Don’t boil too long — the goal is to melt the ingredients into the water
  5. Heat until the mixture becomes a thick but spreadable paste.
  6. Spread mixture on a cookie sheet lined with tin foil and put pan in oven.

The baking process can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on quantity. If you do not wish to bake your natron, you may leave it in a safe place indoors. Do not try to dry your natron outside; this will allow bugs and dirt to make your natron impure.

Kosher salt is the most preferable kind of salt, but any salt without iodine will do. Sea salt should be used carefully as there is a toxicity risk. Avoid ingesting the natron/water solution as much as possible.
