thasma(farm)boy + i am painfully new to sw comics, bear with me
- i have zero commitment when it comes to comics, usually, but: i came for star wars & i am staying to see luke growing into himself! growing into what ben knows & what vader fears (?) he can be!
- like after darth ‘i’ve killed loads of fathers’ vader fucks him up in a duel, any other jedi (/ jedi wannabe) would’ve been so out of it / discouraged / what have you, and luke was for the shortest of whiles –
- but luke (like his dad) didn’t start out as a jedi. “jedi” is not what defines him (unlike obi-wan, qui-gon, mace, yoda, hell, every jedi except anakin). luke started out as a Farm Boy (almanzo wilder he isn’t, but he’s close enough); he still is, here.
- so maybe he’s not the best jedi right now, but he’s rl good at plenty of other things (like his dad) & those skills come in handy maybe more than a lightsaber / control of the force would at this point !
- which begs the question: do lil jedi need to start training so early? is it not better that they, you know, have a life & learn practical skills that apply in some corner of the universe (their home planet) & (gasp!) become attached to their parents in the process; is that really so bad? maybe anakin’s fall showed why attachment is forbidden? but more maybe it was the result of attachment being so forbidden. anyway, there’s something to be said for bullseying womp rats with “primitive weapons.”
- idk, add those to the long list of things that always seemed a bit screwed up about the jedi order
- but mostly, luke skywalker is exceptional
